There's a particular kind of pressure that comes with shooting a campaign meant to outlive its own launch. Glow & Lovely's Gorgeous Suncare & Face Wash line wasn't just about capturing a single hero image. It was about building a library, a bank of expressions and gestures flexible enough to serve the brand long after the shoot wrapped.
Jessica Mila and Nazlia "Inez" Rahma anchored the campaign, each bringing something distinct to the frame. Jessica carried an easy, sun-warmed confidence, the kind of look that suits a product promising freedom from sun damage. Inez, styled as a hijaber, brought a different register entirely: quiet radiance, the sense of skin that glows regardless of what covers the hair. Together, in the couple shots, their chemistry did more work than any styling could. Two women, comfortable in their own skin, proud of it.
Splitting the campaign into two visual worlds felt necessary once we understood the products themselves. Suncare wanted sky, warmth, the physical sensation of sun on skin. So we built an outdoor ambiance: natural light with moderate contrast, a beam positioned just behind the talent to catch the hair and rim it with light, and a blue limbo background standing in for open sky. The goal was never drama. It was clarity. No harsh shadow was allowed to interrupt the story the skin was telling.
Face Wash asked for the opposite mood entirely, something closer, cleaner, indoors. Here we worked through two lighting directions before landing on what served the brand best: one fully shadow-free and versatile for future placements, another that let a soft beam of imagined sunlight cross the frame, referencing the very tan the product promises to wash away. A plain grey limbo kept the focus exactly where it needed to be, on the face, on the transformation.
What made the days move efficiently wasn't luck. It was preparation done long before anyone stepped in front of the lights, poses mapped, expressions discussed, gestures rehearsed so that on set, the only job left was to let Jessica and Inez be themselves in front of the camera. Beauty shots facing left, right, center. Product holding. Application. The small, specific hand gestures brands lean on for years of digital use. Each variation shot with the same discipline as the hero image, because in an image bank, every frame might become someone's favorite someday.
Working on a project like this, split cleanly between two products yet unified in mood, reminds me why I love advertising photography in the first place. It's not about the single perfect shot. It's about building a visual vocabulary a brand can speak in for years.
